Bulgarian soprano superstar Sonya Yoncheva will release her new album “Rebirth” on March 12, 2021.

The album, which will be released by Sony Classical, will spotlight works by Claudio Monteverdi, Francesco Cavalli, Barbara Strozzi, John Dowland, Tomás de Torrejón y Velasco Sánchez, and Alessandro Stradella, among others. The album will also include the popular Bulgarian folk song “Zableyalo Mi Agance,” as well as ABBA’s hit “Like an Angel Passing Through My Room.” Leonardo Garcia Alarcon conducts the Cappella Mediterranea.

The album was recorded during the first COVID-19 lockdown. Yoncheva described the album as “an urge for a rebirth that our world desperately needs at present, something that it achieves by drawing on the very deepest recesses of the human psyche and on its origins in music and the arts.”

Sonya Yoncheva recently performed the title role in Puccini’s “Tosca” at the Bayerische Staatsoper and Wiener Staatsoper, the role of Mimì in “La Bohème” at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and the title role in Cherubini’s “Medea” at the Staatsoper unter der Linden, among others.

The soprano is scheduled to return to the stage for concert performances of Verdi’s “Aida” and the role of Violetta in “La Traviata” at Arena di Verona in June and August 2021, before taking on the role of Elisabetta di Valois in “Don Carlos” at the Metropolitan Opera House in February and March 2022.
