Sonya Yoncheva Replaces Anja Harteros in Bayerische Staatsoper’s ‘Tosca’

The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its upcoming performances of Puccini’s “Tosca.”

The company announced that Sonya Yoncheva will replace Anja Harteros in the title role on Oct. 7, 10, and 13.

Yoncheva first performed the role of “Tosca” at the Metropolitan Opera during the 2017-18 season and went on to perform the role at the Berlin State Opera and the Wiener Staatsoper. She is set to reprise the role at the Wiener Staatsoper this season. The soprano is also set to make her role debuts as Elsa in “Lohengrin” and the title roles of “Manon Lescaut” and “Aida.” She will also appear at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Palau de les Arts.

The soprano joins a cast that includes Stefano La Colla as Cavaradossi and Bryn Terfel as Scarpia.
