Sonya Yoncheva, Leo Nucci, Ambrogio Maestri, Sydney Mancasola, Antonino Siragusa Headline Royal Opera Muscat’s 2023-24 Season

The Royal Opera House Muscat has unveiled its 2023-24 season. Here is the rundown of the classical vocal performances on offer.

First up is “The Barber of Seville” with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI and the Intermezzo Choir under the musical direction of Antonino Fogliani. The opera stars Antonino Siragusa as Conte d’Almaviva, Carlo Lepore as Dr. Bartolo, Nicola Ulivieri as Don Basilio, Maria Kataeva as Rosina, and Vito Priante as Figaro. The Omani Choir Group will also perform. José Luis Castro directs.

Performance Dates: Sept. 28 & 30, 2023

Sonya Yoncheva, Hasmik Torosyan, and Markus Werba star in “La Bohème.” Jean-Louis Grinda directs a production conducted by Emmanuel Villaume. The showcase features the Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana and Monte Carlo Opera Choir.

Leo Nucci takes the stage to hommage Maria Callas. He is joined by Alessandro Cadario and the Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana.

Performance Dates: Nov. 24, 2023

Bass-baritone Erwin Schrott will perform alongside the Madrid Philharmonic Orchestra under Sergey Smbatyan.

Performance Dates: Dec. 15, 2023

“Don Pasquale” will star Ambrogio Maestri as Don Pasquale, Marco Ciaponi as Ernesto, Sara Blanch as Norina, and Davide Luciano as Malatesta. Francesco Lanzillotta conducts the Madrid Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir of the “Giuseppe. Verdi” Conservatory of Ravenna.

Performance Dates: Dec. 14 & 16, 2023

Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will star  Peter Kirk in the role of Lysander, Sydney Mancasola as Titania, Christopher Ainslie as Oberon, and John Chest as Demetrius. Laurence Dale directs and Donato Renzetti conducts the Orchestra and Choir of the Teatro Carlo Felice of Genoa.
