Sonya Yoncheva Cancels Forthcoming Stage Performances Due to Second Pregnancy

By Francisco Salazar

Sonya Yoncheva has confirmed that she is expecting her second child.

The soprano confirmed the news via social media and said, “The time has finally come to share with you that our family will soon have a new member! Domingo, Mateo and I are very excited to welcome our new baby this autumn.”

The soprano also apologized for her recent cancelations and said “I am very sorry about my recent cancelations, they are due to some early pregnancy complications. The doctors consider that I should avoid any stage performances, except concerts till the end of this month. I thank you for your comprehension!”

Yoncheva recently canceled a run of performances of “La Traviata” at the Teatro alla Scala and is set to open a new production of Verdi’s “Otello” at the Baden Baden Festival.

She also has concerts scheduled throughout the next few months with her final performances until the end of the summer at the Salzburg Festival. She takes on the title role in Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut” in April 2020 at the Metropolitan Opera.

OperaWire congratulates Sonya Yoncheva and her family.
