
Sonya Yoncheva, Ailyn Pérez, Toni Marie Palmertree Headline Metropolitan Opera’s ‘Madama Butterfly’

Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” is set to return to the Metropolitan Opera for 15 performances.
The Anthony Minghella production will open on Jan. 9 and run through March 28 with different casts.
The January performances will feature Ailyn Pérez as Cio-Cio-San, tenor SeokJong Baek as Pinkerton, Hyona Kim as Suzuki and baritone Andrzej Filończyk as Sharpless. Marco Armiliato leads from the podium
Then in March, two casts will rotate. Sonya Yoncheva will sing five performances as Cio-Cio-San beginning March 10. She will be joined by Adam Smith in his company debut as Pinkerton, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano as Suzuki, and baritone Quinn Kelsey as Sharpless. Carlo Rizzi conducts.
The second cast, beginning March 11, will feature Pérez returning as Cio-Cio-San alongside Matthew Polenzani as Pinkerton, and Kim and Filończyk once again as Suzuki and Sharpless. Toni Marie Palmertree sings Cio-Cio-San in the final performance of the run on March 28.
The Jan. 9 and March 14 and 19 performances of “Madama Butterfly” will be broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on the SiriusXM app.
