Sondra Radvanovsky, Nina Stemme, Lise Davidsen, Brandon Jovanovich, Clémentine Margaine, Asmik Grigorian Lead Deutsche Oper Fall 2020 Performances

Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced its November and December 2020 schedule, which will spotlight a number of international opera stars.

Here is the full slate.

Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” will feature Philippe Talbot, Noel Bouley, Aigul Akhmetshina, Thomas Lehman, Dong-Hwan Lee, Tyler Zimmerman, and Joel Allison. Daniel Carter will conduct the production by Katharina Thalbach.

Performance Dates: Nov. 7, 2020 – Dec. 26, 2020

Wagner’s “Die Walküre” will continue its October 2020 run, spotlighting Brandon Jovanovich in the role of Siegmund, Tobias Kehrer as Hunding, Johan Reuter in the role of Wotan, Lise Davidsen as Sieglinde, Nina Stemme in the role of Brünnhilde, and Annika Schlicht as Fricka. The cast will also include Irene Roberts, Flurina Stucki, Antonia Ahyoung Kim, Ulrike Helzel, Karis Tucker, Nicole Piccolomini, and Eric Naumann.

Deutsche Oper General Music Director Donald C. Runnicles will conduct the production by Stefan Herheim.

Performance Dates: Nov. 13 – 15, 2020

Verdi’s “Messa da Requiem” will feature Eleonora Buratto, Clémentine Margaine, Attilio Glaser, and Günther Groissböck. Donald C. Runnicles conducts. Jeremy Bines is the Chorus Master.

Performance dates: Nov. 27 – 28, 2020

Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” will showcase Asmik Grigorian in the role of Cio-Cio-San, Jana Kurucová as Suzuki, Arianna Manganello in the role of Kate Pinkerton, Joshua Guerrero as B. F. Pinkerton, and Thomas Lehman as Sharpless. The cast also includes Burkhard Ulrich, Jörg Schörner, Byung Gil Kim, Tyler Zimmerman, Kimiko Adachi, Sin Ae Choi, and So Young Park.

John Fiore conducts the production by Pier Luigi Samaritani.

Performance Dates: Dec. 3 – 6, 2020

Puccini’s masterwork “Tosca” will star Joseph Calleja as Mario Cavaradossi, Carlos Álvarez in the role of Scarpia, and Sondra Radvanovsky in the title role. The cast will be completed by Samuel Dale Johnson, Andrew Dickinson, Andrew Harris, and Tyler Zimmerman.

Donald C. Runnicles will conduct the production by Boleslaw Barlog.

Performance Dates: Dec. 9 – Dec. 12, 2020

Humperdinck’s “Hänsel und Gretel” will spotlight Irene Roberts in the role of Hänsel, Meechot Marrero as Gretel, and Joel Allison as Peter. The cast also includes Burkhard Ulrich and Valeriia Savinskaia.

Yi-Chen Lin conducts the production by Andreas Homoki.

Performance Dates: Dec. 11 – Dec. 27, 2020

The Verdi-Wagner Gala will star Sondra Radvanovsky, Annalisa Stroppa, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, and Günther Groissböck. The conductor will be announced at a later date.

Performance date: Dec. 18, 2020

Finally, the New Year’s Gala concert will showcase Sara Jakubiak, Anna Pirozzi, Aigul Akhmetshina, and Amartuvshin Enkhbat. The conductor will be announced at a later date.

Performance date: Jan. 2, 2021
