Sondra Radvanovsky, Juan Diego Flórez, Joseph Calleja Among Many Opera Stars At Festival Castell Peralada

The Festival Castel Peralada has announced its 2019 slate.

The festival will feature a number of performances from many different musical genres, but the emphasis here will be on vocal performances or operas.

Things kick off with the world prmeiere of “Dialègs de Tirant e Carmesina,” a new chamber opera with music by Joan Magrané and a libretto by March Rosich. The performance will be directed by Rosich with musical direction by Francesc Prat. The cast will include Josep-Ramon Olivé, Isabella Gaudí, and Anna Alàs Jové. The work is a co-production with the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

Performance Date: July 18, 2019

Baritone Ludovic Tézier will make his debut with the festival in a recital featuring a number of opera arias.

Performance Date: July 20, 2019

Soprano Camilla Nylund will team up with pianist Helmut Deutsch for a recital that includes music of Strauss, Dvorak, Mahler, and Sibelius.

Performance Date: August 3, 2019 

Tenor Joseph Calleja will also make his debut at the Festival with a recital featuring opera arias and art songs.

Performance Date: August 4, 2019

Verdi’s “La Traviata” will get a new staging, directed by Paco Azorín with Ekaterina Bakanova as Violetta, René Barbera as Alfredo, and Quinn Kelsey as Germont.

Soprano Nuria Rial and tenor Juan Sancho will team with the Capella Cracoviensis and conductor Jan Tomasz Adamus for arias and duets by Handel.

Performance Date: August 8, 2019

Tenor Juan Diego Flórez will return to the festival for a concert featuring arias by Gounod, Puccini, and Donizetti. Joining him will be soprano Ruzan Mantashyan and the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès led by maestro Guillermo García Calvo.

Performance Date: August 9, 2019 

Finally, soprano Sondra Radvanovsky will join forces with pianist Anthony Manoli for a recital of arias and songs by Donizetti, Puccini, Caccini, Scarlatti, Verdi, Gluck, Bellini, and Rossini.
