Solo Opera to Present ‘Scalia / Ginsburg’

By David Salazar

Solo Opera is set to present Derrick Wang’s “Scalia / Ginsburg” on Sept. 10 and 12 at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, California.

The opera will star Nikki Einfeld as Ginsburg, Christopher Bengochea as Scalia, and Kirk Eichelberger as the Commentator. A seven-piece orchestra will be conducted by Alexander Katsman. Sylvia Amorino will direct.

“We are so excited to receive the rights to share this wonderful opera with our community. We were originally scheduled to produce the show last August timed just before the presidential election. We were, of course, saddened to have had to cancel when the pandemic hit and everything shut down. But we feel the opera’s message, ‘We are different. We are one’ is almost more important to produce coming out of the pandemic as its message is one of healing, friendship, diversity, and inclusiveness,” said Sylvia Amorino, Solo Opera’s Artistic Director, in a press release.

Solo Opera, founded in 2000, is the 2016 Arts Recognition Award recipient  and has produced 16 opera productions at the Lesher Center for the Arts and around the Bay Area, including “The Telephone,” “The Medium,” “Riders of the Sea,” and “Amahl and the Night Visitors.”
