Social Media Beat-Week (12/18-23) : Rolando Villazon Meets his First Goal on Crowdrise While Anna Netrebko Triumphs in Verdi’s ‘Macbeth’
By Francisco SalazarThe Holiday season can be a time of inactivity for many and it is a time to relax. This week most opera singers took time to celebrate and go on vacation. Some continued to sing and triumph while others took advantage of the European cities to sight see and explore a little.
Michael Fabiano
It was an eventful and star studded week for Michael Fabiano as he posted two pictures filled with opera stars. The first picture shows him with Latonia Moore, Jesus Garcia and James Valenti. And just a day ago, the tenor celebrated an early Christmas lunch with Nadine Sierra, Mathew Polenzani, and Jessica Pratt. That would sure make for an incredible evening at the opera.
Valentina Nafornita and Roberto Alagna
Both stars spent the week in rehearsals for a concert in Moscow. The rehearsal period was well documented by Alagna who posted four pictures from backstage while Nafornita showed off her beautiful gowns for the concert. There was even a video posted of the audience who enjoyed the concert. Nafornita did however, post a picture of her exploring Moscow on her time off.
Anna Netrebko
There is never a social media week without Anna Netrebko and this week the diva was performing Verdi’s “Macbeth.” The performances, which were sold out for a long time received rave reviews. During her time off, she went to the technology museum in Munich with her family as well as the zoo. She later traveled to Vienna where she finished her Christmas tree and got to enjoy the first snow of the season.

Rolando Villazon
Villazon is by far the king of social media as he continued his crowd rise campaign to raise money for the Refugees. The tenor met his first goal, which was to raise $5000 before Christmas.
Villain promoted his campaign and also took the time to thank every person who donated on Twitter with a picture He also released a video thanking everyone on instagram and urged people to continue to spread the word and continue to donate.
Piotr Beczala
The Polish tenor spent the week in Santa Monica before heading to Berlin. The tenor had a concert in California and during his time off he visited the Hollywood walk of fame where came across an empty star and went golfing. He even got to spend time at the Beach. Beczala returns to the stage on Christmas for a revival of Puccini’s “La Boheme.
Anita Rachvelishvili
After her recital at the Teatro alla Scala, the mezzo soprano went on vacation with her husband. She the time in Italy to sight see and visit Milan and Florence. The mezzo showcased of the most beautiful landscapes of Italy’s architecture and also took pictures with her husband. She returns to the stage next month to continue performances of her acclaimed Azucena in Verdi’s “Il Trovatore.”
