Siyabonga Maqungo Stars in The Songmakers’ Guild’s ‘A Poet’s Journey’

The Songmakers’ Guild presents “A Poet’s Journey” with tenor Siyabonga Maqungo.

Maqungo and pianist Florian Uhlig perform a program showcasing two masterpieces of German Lieder: Beethoven’s “An die ferne Geliebte” and Schumann’s “Dichterliebe.” A Poet’s Journey” is the the Songmakers’ Guild’s second installment of Schumann’s ‘Dichterliebe.” Countertenor Clint Van der Linde and harpist Vincianne Degroote opened the series back in Feb. 2024 with “A Poet’s Love.”

Maqungo hails from South Africa and is currently an ensemble member of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. He has been recognized for his roles of Alfred in “Die Fledermaus,” Arturo in “Lucia di Lammermoor,” Count Almaviva in “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” and Ferrando in “Cosi fan tutte.”

Performances take place in Stellenbosch at Heuer Pianos on April 4 and in Cape Town at the Wegemeend Concert Hall in Gardens the following day.
