Sir Thomas Allen has announced that he is retiring from the stage.

According to reports, AD Stephen Langridge walked out on stage at the final performance of “The Merry Widow” on July 28, 2024, and said that Sir Thomas Allen was “hanging up his dancing shoes.”

Slippeddisc reported that Alastair Macaulay said, “Tonight, the British baritone Thomas Allen, aged seventy-nine, announced from the Glyndebourne stage that this had been his final performance; I wish I had been there. He had already informally announced his farewell to friends and few years ago, but Glyndebourne had tempted him back this year into ‘The Merry Widow.’ It feels as if a significant part of my life has said farewell. ”

Allen performed at all the major theaters in the world including the Royal Opera, Metropolitan Opera,  San Francisco Opera, LA Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, and Salzburg Festival. He has been awarded numerous prizes including the Bayerischer Kammersänger, Honorary Membership of the Royal Academy of Music, Fellowship of the Royal College of Music, and the Queen’s Birthday Honor.
