Sir Simon Rattle, and the Czech mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená will perform a live concert in the Villa Tugendhat in Brno, Czech Republic on August 13, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. EDT.

Repertoire for the concert will include songs by Bohuslav Martinů, Erwin Schulhoff, Antonín Dvořák, Leoš Janáček, and Petr Eben. Simon Rattle will be at the piano. The program of the concert was chosen by Kožená and Rattle exclusively for the Villa Tugendhat performance.

“The atmosphere of a home concert in the unique environment of Villa Tugendhat, which is also taking place in my hometown, charges the whole performance with strong emotions. I included in the program songs that accompanied me while studying at the conservatory, and many of them include folk melodies or lyrics,” said Kožená in the statement on her official website.

“I have the most intimate relationship with them because they not only reflect the enormous wealth of folk creativity of our region, of which I am rightly proud, but they also remind me of the happy moments of my childhood and youth,” added the Czech mezzo-soprano.

Kožená will next perform with La Cetra Barockorchester Basel and its conductor Andrea Marcon in October and November 2020.

Villa Tugendhat is a part of the UNESCO world heritage.
