Sir Simon Keenlyside, Eva-Maria Westbroek & Enea Scala Lead La Monnaie’s Updated 2020-21 Season

La Monnaie has announced an updated 2020-21 season that is expected to begin in February.

Here is the look.

Opera

A semi-staged version of Mozart’s Opera “Der Schauspieldirektor” will feature Mieke de Groote, Achille Ridolfi, Dietrich Henschel, Marie-Aurore D’Awans, Nadine Baboy, Hervé Loka Sombo, Lenneke Ruiten, Evelien Van Hamme, and Simona Šaturová.

Alain Altinoglu conducts the production by Michael de Cock and Fabrice Murgia.

Performance dates: Feb. 12 – Feb. 16, 2021

The Queen and her Favourite” will consist of highlights from Rossini’s “Elisabetta, Regina D’Inghilterra.” The work will showcase Salome Jicia, Sergey Romanovsky, Lenneke Ruiten, Enea Scala, and Valentina Mastrangelo. Francesco Lanzillotta conducts the production by Jordi Blanch Tordera.

Performance dates: March 5 – March 11, 2021

The King and his Favourite” will consist of highlights from Donizetti’s “La Favorita.” The work will feature Vittorio Prato, Raffaella Lupinacci, Luca Tittoto, Enea Scala, Valentina Mastrangelo, and Gavan Ring. Francesco Lanzillotta conducts the production by Jordi Blanch Tordera.

Performance dates: March 6 – March 12, 2021

Wantenaar’s “A Song For The Moon” will be performed in the production by Beatricé Lachaussée.

Performance dates: April 17 – April 22, 2021

Britten’s “The Turn of the Screw” will spotlight Ed Lyon, Sally Matthews, Thomas Heinen, Henri de Beauffort, Katharina Bierweiler, Carole Wilson, Giselle Allen, and Julian Hubbard. Ben Glassberg conducts the production by Andrea Breth.

Performance dates: April 27 – May 11, 2021

Puccini’s “Tosca” will star Pavel Černoch and Andrea Carè as Mario Cavaradossi, Laurent Naouri and Franco Vassallo as Scarpia, and Myrtò Papatanasiu and Davinia Rodriguez in the title role. The cast also includes Gianluca Margheri, Riccardo Novaro, Kamil Ben Hsaïn Lachiri, Logan Lopez Gonzalez, Kurt Gysen, and Ed Lyon.

Alain Altinoglu conducts the production by Rafael R. Villalobos.

Performance dates: June 11 – July 2, 2021

Concerts

Mozart Akademie” will spotlight soprano Sabine Devieilhe, who will perform works by Mozart. Raphaël Pichon will conduct.

Performance date: Feb. 7, 2021

Recitals

Christoph Prégardien and his son Julian Prégardien will give a recital featuring works by Mozart, Beethoven, Silcher, Schubert, Brahms, and Zilcher. Michael Gees will be at the piano.

Performance date: Feb. 1, 2021

Bejun Mehta will give a recital showcasing works by Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Britten, and Mahler. Jonathan Ware will be at the piano.

Performance date: March 25, 2021

Mezzo-soprano Stephanié d’Oustrac will give a recital featuring works by Viardot, Berlioz and Liszt. Pascal Jourdan will be at the piano.

Performance date: May 10, 2021

Soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek will perform a recital showcasing works by Barber, Weill, Turina, Guridi, and Guastavino. Julius Drake will be at the piano.

Performance date: May 31, 2021

Famed baritone Sir Simon Keenlyside will give a recital presenting works by Poulenc, Britten, Brahms, and Schumann.

Performance date: June 12, 2021

The company also announced that the French grand opera “Henry VIII”  and the project “Bastarda” will be presented in 2023.
