Sir Bryn Terfel, Ricarda Merbeth, Stephen Costello, Linda Watson & Tomasz Konieczny Headline Wiener Staatsoper’s Streaming Slate

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced the slate of operas that it will be presenting on its streaming platform over the next week.

Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen” from 2016 will be streamed initially. Adam Fischer conducts a production by Sven-Eric Bechtolf.

First up is “Das Rheingold” with Tomasz Konieczny, Norbert Ernst, Michaela Schuster, and Jochen Schmeckenbecher.

Streaming date: Nov. 22, 2021

Next up is “Die Walküre” starring Christopher Ventris, Waltraud Meier, Linda Watson, and Tomasz Konieczny.

Streaming date: Nov. 23, 2021

Siegfried” with Christian Franz, Linda Watson, Tomasz Konieczny, and Herwig Pecoraro follows.

Streaming date: Nov. 24, 2021

The cycle’s final opera “Götterdämmerung” stars Christian Franz, Linda Watson, Jochen Schmeckenbecher, and Eric Halfvarson.

Streaming date: Nov. 25, 2021

The opera house will then stream Otto Schenk’s production of Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore” from June 2016. The opera stars Valentina Naforniţă, Stephen Costello, Marco Caria, and Erwin Schrott. Marco Armiliato conducts.

Streaming date: Nov. 26, 2021

Ending the current slate of announced streams is a 2014 performance of Wagner’s “Der Fliegende Holländer” with Sir Bryn Terfel, Peter Rose, Ricarda Merbeth, and Norbert Ernst. Graeme Jenkins conducts a production by Christine Mielitz.
