Sir Antonio Pappano Named Music Director Emeritus at Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia

Sir Antonio Pappano has been named Music Director Emeritus of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

Pappano will take up the position in October 2023 when his contract as Music Director expires.

Pappano has been Music Director with Santa Cecilia for 17 years and has conducted the orchestra in numerous concerts throughout the world. Under Pappano, the orchestra has performed at Carnegie Hall, Salzburg Festival, Philharmonie in Berlin, Vienna’s Musikverein, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and Proms in London. The orchestra has also recorded with such prestigious artists as Jonas Kaufmann, Anna Netrebko, Diana Damrau, Joyce DiDonato, Martha Argerich, and Janine Jansen.

In his new position, Pappano will conduct the Orchestra and Chorus of the Santa Cecilia in a new production of “Madama Butterfly” at the Salzburg Easter Festival.

Pappano recently announced that he would become the Music Director of the London Symphony Orchestra and would be leaving his post at the Royal Opera House in 2024.
