Simon Keenlyside Knighted By The Queen

Baritone Simon Keenlyside was knighted in the Queen’s birthday honors list.

The baritone, who is best known for his interpretations of Mozart, was among the list of classical music figures who were honored by the queen.

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa was made a Companion of Honour, joining the likes of conductor Sir Mark Elder and percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie in the prestigious order.

Composer Thomas Ades was also honored by being made a CBE, while mezzo-soprano Alice Coote was recognized with an OBE.

Classic FM’s Composer in Residence, Debbie Wiseman was also awarded an OBE for Services to Music.

Outside the classical music circle, actor Emma Thompson was made a Dame and author Kazuo Ishiguro was knighted. Actors Tom Hardy and Keira Knightley were made a CBE and OBE respectively. Veteran broadcaster and author Bamber Gascoigne was also recognized as a CBE.
