Siman Chung, Sharleen Joynt, Etta Fung to Headline Edmonton Opera’s ‘Orphée+’

By David Salazar

Edmonton Opera is set to present its first-ever production of “Orphée+” starting on Jan. 28, 2023.

The work will be conducted by Sandra Horst in her company debut and directed by Joel Ivany. In the role of Orphée audiences will see Siman Chung in his company debut. Sharleen Joynt, who appeared in the Edmonton Opera’s “Rigoletto” back in 2019, will return as Eurydice. Rounding out the trio will be Etta Fung as Amour; she will also make her company debut with this production.

“This show gives a continuing nod to the past while forging ahead into the future. It symbolizes the potential of where Edmonton Opera is headed in the years to come,” said Ivany, also the Artistic Director of the company, in an official press release. “I’m incredibly excited to bring this to Edmonton audiences. It’s a production like none other I’ve ever worked on – dance, aerial artistry, projections, a virtual chorus. The show features incredible Canadian dancers, an international cast and a re-imagined score and I believe it will be electrifying for our audience.”

There will be an additional performance on Jan. 31 followed by a final one on Feb. 3, 2023.
