This week, audiences will get a chance to see a new production of the Ring Cycle, a classic recording of a Verdi staple, and two solo albums. Here is a look at this week’s releases.
Black Pierrot
Lexicon Classics releases “Black Pierrot,” a landmark album showcasing baritone Sidney Outlaw in two seminal works: Brittney “B.E.” Boykin’s revolutionary song cycle, and William Grant Still’s poignant Songs of Separation, which includes texts by Arna Bontemps, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Countee Cullen, Langston Hughes, and Philippe Thoby Marcelin.
Sky of my Heart
Vocal ensemble New York Polyphony releases its tenth commercial album, “Sky of my Heart,” on BIS Records. Featuring guest performances by LeStrange Viols, the expansive recording encompasses selections from Renaissance composers William Byrd and Orlando Gibbons through 20th and 21st century works by Ivan Moody, John Tavener, Becky McGlade, Akemi Naito, Paul Moravec, Andrew Smith, and Nico Muhly.

Lexicon Classics releases the debut album from mezzo-soprano Devony Smith and pianist Danny Zelibor.
The genre-defying collection features world and recording premieres by today’s leading American composers, including Jennifer Higdon, Mark Adamo, David Lang, Will Liverman, and B.E. Boykin as well as the first-ever song settings of poetry by Harlem Renaissance icon Anne Spencer.

CPO releases “Il trionfo della Fama,” featuring Ottavio Dantone and Accademia Bizantina.
Francesco Bartolomeo Conti’s “Il trionfo della Fama” was premiered in 1723 by the Vienna Court Chapel in St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, and the new recording stars Nicolò Balducci (Fama), Sophie Rennert (Gloria), and Benedetta Mazzucato (Genio).
Richard Wagner: Der Ring des Nibelungen
Accentus releases Opernhaus Zurich’s Ring Cycle featuring a cast that includes Tomasz Konieczny, Camilla Nylund, Christopher Purves, Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke, and Klaus Florian Vogt. The new production is directed by Andreas Homoki and conducted by Gianandrea Noseda.
Giuseppe Verdi: Un ballo in maschera
C Major Entertainment will release a recording of Verdi’s work from the Gran Teatre del Liceu. The release stars Piotr Beczała in one of his signature roles, Keri Alkema, Carlos Álvarez, Dolora Zajick, and Katerina Tretyakova. Renato Palumbo conducts Vincent Boussard’s production.
Bernard Foccroulle: Cassandra
Recorded from La Monnaie, the new recording of Foccroulle’s opera stars Katarina Bradić, Jessica Niles, Susan Bickley, Sarah Defrise, Paul Appleby, Joshua Hopkins, Gidon Saks, Sandrine Mairesse, and Lisa Willems. La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra and Chorus is conducted by Kazushi Ono.
