Showcase Cinemas will celebrate World Opera Day with two cinema events.

The company will present Andrew Llyod Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera” and an encore presentation of Jake Heggie’s “Dead Man Walking.”

“The Phantom of the Opera” was released back in 2004 and is directed by Joel Schumacher. The cast includes Patrick Wilson, Emmy Rossum, Gerard Butler, and Minnie Driver. The film went on to receive Oscar nominations for original song, cinematography, and art direction.

Meanwhile, Dead Man Walking” opened the Metropolitan Opera’s 2023-24 season and starred Joyce DiDonato, Latonia Moore, Ryan McKinny, and Susan Graham. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducted. Regarding the production OperaWire noted, “Joyce DiDonato & Ryan McKinny Shine in Ivo Van Hove’s Production.”
