Seton Hall University to Present ‘Norma’
By David SalazarSeton Hall University will present Bellini’s “Norma” in a one night only concert performance on Nov. 11 at the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) in South Orange, N.J.
The Seton Hall University Classical Concert Series, the Charles and Joan Alberto Italian Studies Institute, and MidAtlantic Artistic Productions are presenting the production. Jason C. Tramm will conduct the MidAtlantic Philharmonic Orchestra and the Seton Hall University Chorus. The concert version will be enhanced by scenic projections.
Soprano Amy Shoremount-Obra will sing the title role, with mezzo-soprano Laura Zahn as Adalgisa, tenor Nathan Schafer as Pollione, and bass baritone Henry Hyunsoon Kim as Oroveso. Seton Hall University students Douglas Vail and Andromeda Tong will appear as Flavio and Clotilde, respectively.
“Experiential learning projects like our annual opera collaboration are among the most powerful educational experiences we can offer our students,” said Tramm, who serves as President and Artistic Director of MidAtlantic Artistic Productions and as Professor of Music and Chair of the Department of Communication, Media, and the Arts at Seton Hall, per an official press release “For 13 years, this partnership has given students the extraordinary opportunity to work side by side with accomplished professional musicians, experiencing firsthand the artistic discipline, collaboration, and commitment required to bring great opera to life. These transformative experiences extend learning far beyond the classroom, inspiring artistic growth, building confidence, and preparing students for future professional success. Bellini’s ‘Norma,’ with its extraordinary musical and dramatic demands, provides a particularly compelling opportunity to continue that tradition.”
The performance kicks off at 6 p.m. local time.
