Serena Malfi & Levy Sekgapane to Headline LA Opera’s ‘Cinderella’
By David SalazarThe Los Angeles Opera is set to celebrate the holiday season with a family-friendly production of Rossini’s “Cinderella.”
The opera will be presented in Laurent Pelly’s staging with Roberto Abbado in the pit. The opera will star Serena Malfi as Angelina with Levy Sekgapane as Don Ramiro. Other cast members include Rodion Pogossov, Alessandro Corbelli, and Ildebrando D’Arcangelo.
“Following the heightened passion, tragic drama and epic sweep of the season’s first two operas, ’Il Trovatore’ and ‘Tannhäuser,’ it’s now time for something lighter and brighter,” said Christopher Koelsch, LA Opera’s president and CEO, in a press statement. “Rossini’s ‘Cinderella’ fills the bill perfectly. It’s fleet, funny, romantic, and heartwarming, all at once. It’s also a showcase for spectacular singing, and we’ve assembled the perfect cast and creative team to bring this masterpiece to life.”
“Cinderella” opens on Nov. 20 and runs for six performances through Dec. 12, 2021. Additionally, performances on Nov. 28 and Dec. 1 will be live streamed.
