The Senate of Berlin has postponed part of the pilot project for reopening theaters, concert halls, and opera houses in Berlin due to the new regulations crafted by the German federal government and Prime Ministers of German federal states.

The Staatsoper unter der Linden and Deutsche Oper Berlin have subsequently announced that their participation in the project has been postponed accordingly. Two opera houses should have participated in the project with presentations of Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” and Zandonai’s “Francesca da Rimini” on April 2 and April 4, 2021, respectively.

Both opera houses further stated that they would inform the audiences about potential new dates of the performances in due time.

Germany is undergoing an ongoing COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The Robert Koch Institute and the Charité hospital in Berlin warned that the country could see a large third wave of the disease, driven by the novel SARS-CoV-2 variants.
