Semperoper Dresden to Expand Accessibility Options for Select Performances

By David Salazar

Semperoper Dresden has announced that it will be expanding its accessibility options for its audiences by introducing opera performances with audio descriptions as well as haptic tours.

The audio descriptions are written by non-sighted and sighted authors that will describe events as well as stage design and costumes. The services are free of charge but only valid with a ticket purchase.

The audio description service will be available for performances of “The Magic Flute” on Nov. 11 and Dec. 10; “Hansel and Gretel” on Dec. 2 and “La Bohème” on Dec. 25, 2023.

Additionally, there will be pre-performance haptic tours that offer explorations of the works and production; audiences will also get tactile experiences of props, costumes, and wigs.
