The Semperoper Dresden has announced that starting on May 18, the company will be presenting a virtual exhibition dedicated to Carl Maria von Weber’s “Der Freischütz.”

The exhibition will showcase several prominent productions of the famed work, leading up to a stream of the company’s newest production of the opera on June 18, 2021, the anniversary of the opera’s world premiere 200 years ago. The production that will be streamed dates from 2015 and stars Sara Jakubiak, Christina Landshamer, Andreas Bauer Kanabas, Albert Dohmen, Adrian Eröd, Michael König, Sebastian Wartig, and Georg Zeppenfeld under the musical direction of Christian Thielemann.

The opera premiered at Dresden’s Royal Court Theatre on January 26, 1822, and has since become a fixture of the Semperoper’s repertory, appearing almost 1,500 times with the company.

Janine Schütz, the head of the Historical Archive, curated the exhibition.
