Semperoper Dresden Cancels ‘Operngala Mit Preisverleihung’

The Semperoper Dresden has announced a cancellation of the Operngala scheduled for Nov. 21, 2021.

Per an official statement on the opera house’s website, the event has to be canceled due to the current wave of COVID-19 in Germany. The current 7-day incidence in the City of Dresden stands at 565.4, while the overall 7-day incidence in the state of Saxony stands at 742.2, a pandemic record.

Germany is undergoing a new wave of COVID-19 caused by the infectious Delta variant of the coronavirus. The daily number of infections reached 52,000 nationally, and health officials have warned that the country is facing bed shortages in ICU’s. Per the estimates from the Berlin’s Charité hospital, the health system in Germany could be overrun within three weeks if the wave is not slowed down.

The Operngala Mit Preisverleihung will be rescheduled when the epidemiological situation allows.
