The Semperoper Dresden has announced that Franco Vassallo will perform Rodrigo in a highly anticipated new production of Verdi’s “Don Carlo.”

Vassallo will sing all four performances, which are all sold out.

The production is highly anticipated as it marks the return of Anna Netrebko to the Semperoper Dresden and her role debut as Elisabetta in the work. Vassallo will also join Yusif Eyvazov in the title role, Ekaterina Semenchuk as Eboli, Ildar Abdrazakov as Filippo II, and Carlo Colombara as the Grand Inquisitor.

The production is set to be conducted by Christian Thielemann and will first premiere at the Salzburg Easter Festival on April 4 and 13, 2020. Vera Nemirova directs the new four-act version.

Performances of “Don Carlo” at the Semperoper Dresden are scheduled for May 23 through June 1, 2020.
