By Francisco Salazar

The Semperoper Dresden has announced a cast change for an upcoming world premiere production.

The German company noted that soprano Magdalena Anna Hofmann will appear in the role of Sarai in the world premiere of the “The Other Wife” on Jan. 22, replacing Evelyn Herlitzius, who is ill.

The performance will mark Hofmann’s house debut at the Semperoper. The soprano has performed at Tiroler Festspiele in Erl, the Teatro alla Scala, the Theater an der Wien, and the Bregenz Festival, among others.

Hofmann will join a cast that includes Markus Marquardt, Stephanie Atanasov, Philipp Mathmann, Philipp Meraner, Ilya Silchuk, and  Sussan Deyhim.

The new work was commissioned by the Saxon State Opera and will be staged by Immo Karaman. “The Other Wife” is set to be performed through Feb.9 with Evelyn Herlitzius performing on Jan. 30 and Feb. 2, 2022.
