Semperoper Dresden Announces Cast Change for ‘Norma’

The Semperoper Dresden has announced a cast change for the Oct. 23 performance of “Norma.”

The company noted that Marcelo Puente will sing the role of Pollione replacing Dmytro Popov.

Puente has performed the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Oper Stuttgart, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Hamburg State Opera, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, Canadian Opera Company, Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, and State Opera Prague. He is well known for his Puccini and Verdi roles as well as his Verismo portrayals.

The tenor joins a cast that includes Liang LI, Yolanda Auyanet, and Stepanka Pucalkova. Conductor Gaetano d’Espinosa leads Peter Konwitschny‘s new production. 

Popov is set to return to the production for the final performance on Oct. 31, 2021.
