Semperoper Dresden Announces Cast Change for ‘Aida’

The Semperoper Dresden has announced a cast change for its July 5 performance of Verdi’s “Aida.”

The company noted that Sava Vemić will sing the role of Ramfis stepping in for Vitalij Kowaljow. 

Sava Vemić is a member of the ensemble at Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz and has performed at the New National Theatre Tokyo, Belgrade National Theater, Verbier Festival, The Metropolitan Opera, and Guatemalan National Theatre, among others. He was a member of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program (LYADP) under the mentorship of Maestro James Levine.

The bass will join a cast that includes Andreas Bauer Kanabas, Anna Smirnova, Maria José Siri, Jorge de Léon, and Ambrogio Maestri. Omer Meir Wellber conducts the production by Katharina Thalbach.

Kowaljow is expected to return for the final performance on July 9, 2022.
