Seattle Opera Appoints New Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer

Seattle Opera has a new COO and CFO. Marissa Betz-Zall will assume the role of Chief Financial Officer, and Ángela Gist, that of Chief Operations Officer. Both were appointed by the General Director Christina Scheppelmann. The two new executives will begin their functions in March 2023 and replace Jane Repensek served as COO/CFO since 2017.

Betz-Zall started at the Seattle Opera as a Senior Accountant in 2013 and then as a Controller, becoming Associate Director of Finance from 2019 to 2021 and managing the Covid-19 pandemic, ensuring more than 11 million dollars in relief funds.

COO Gist joined Seattle Opera in 2021 as Director of Human Resources and spearheaded a response to the Covid-19 pandemic that resulted in zero performance cancellations; she will now serve as the new Chief Operations Officer operations. “I am excited to find creative new ways to support our artwork,” said Gist in an official press statement.

CFO Betz-Zall stated, “I am excited to explore new strategies to recover from the pandemic and ensure that the teams at Seattle Opera are working towards a common goal. We are lucky to have strong community support and amazing staff.”
