Schlossfestspiele Ettlingen to Showcase Bizet’s ‘Carmen’

The Schlossfestspiele Ettlingen is set to open Bizet’s “Carmen” on June 30, 2022.

The production, which will be staged by Solvejg Bauer and conducted by Ulrich Cornelius Maier, will feature Sophie Kidwell and Julienne Mbodjé sharing the title role. As Don José audiences will see José Carmona and Jongwoo Kim. Kristin Gudmundsdottir and Daniela Yurrita will trade-off as Micaëla while Huynkyum Kim will be Escamillo.

As Frasquita audiences will see either Lisa Gaiselmann or Theresa Immerz with Kristina Mantyla and Julia Werner alternating as Mercedes. The remaining cast members include Lukas Eder as Zuniga and Morales, Gregor Reinhold as Remendado, Edilson Silva Junior as Dancairo, and Thomas Kuhle as Lilas Pastia.

The production, which runs for 15 performances through August 13, 2022, follows months of preparation as well as vocal and diction coaching for the artists. The open-air showcase will take place at the castle of Ettlingen, following a 40-year tradition.
