La Jolla Music Society has announced its 2023 SummerFest, which will take place at The Conrad in San Diego, California between July 28 and August 26.

The season’s main theme will be “The Great Unknown.”

“Audiences will discover fantastical and otherworldly pieces, myths, fairy tales, dreams, and memories, reveling both in the canon’s most beloved works and in hidden gems from well-known, lesser-known and previously silenced composers,” said music director Inon Barnatan in an official press statement. “Above all, The Great Unknown personifies the mysterious and intangible nature of music and how it continues to transform, inspire and surprise us all.”

Here is a look at the classical vocal performances.

“Journey in Light” will feature Sasha Cooke. The program includes works by Ysaÿe, Boulanger, Haydn, Debussy, Turina, Schubert, and Mozart, among others.

Performance Date: July 29, 2023

Sasha Cooke and Paul Groves will headline a performance of “Das Lied von der Erde.” Alan Gilbert leads the SummerFest Chamber Orchestra in a program that also includes Brahms’ Horn Trio in E-flat Major, Op. 40.
