Sarna Lapine & Kelley O’Connor Discuss Boston Lyric Opera’s ‘Lucretia’ on Upcoming ‘AT ITS (s)CORE’ Episode

By Logan Martell

As season one of Boston Lyric Opera’s “AT ITS (s)CORE” series reaches a close, its upcoming episode will feature director Sarna Lapine and Grammy-winning mezzo Kelley O’ Connor.

The duo will be discussing their work on BLO’s spring 2019 production of Britten’s “The Rape of Lucretia,” with topics such as Lapine’s theater-oriented approach to rehearsals, and O’Connor’s experience with not only the text but the productions distinctive set installations.

Lapine draws a connection to the production with the concurrent #MeToo movement, as well as the Kavanaugh Supreme Court hearings; she urges progressive movements to work together towards social justice, saying “It serves the patriarchy for us not to be in it together.”

Previous episodes of “AT ITS (s)CORE” are available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and Stitcher.
