Sarasota Opera has announced that the fall semester of its acclaimed Sarasota Youth Opera’s program will be held online this year. The enrollment for the semester will begin on August 25. No audition will be required.

The technical requirements for the Sarasota Youth Opera fall semester include either a cellphone, computer, laptop, or a tablet with a working camera and microphone. The “Virtual Chorus” member will need a free Zoom account.

Throughout the course of the semester, SYO attendees will have an opportunity to meet opera professionals – singers, costume designers, and instrumentalists, among others.

The Sarasota Youth Opera music staff will also provide free coachings to all students, so they could be able to work on their singing skills, music reading, and chorus repertory. Ear training sessions will help students to further master the music reading skills. These lessons will be part of the chorus rehearsals.

Sarasota Youth Opera program has been providing nationwide opportunities for thousands of young people to experience the world of opera ever since 1984. Members of the Youth Opera frequently appear on the Sarasota Opera’s mainstage in the special roles written for children’s voices. Recent productions have included roles in Puccini’s “La bohème” and “Tosca,” and Bizet’s “Carmen,” among others.
