Sarasota Opera Announces 2022-23 Season

The season kicks off with a production of Cimarosa’s “Il Matrimonio Segreto,” in its company debut. Victor DeRenzi will conduct a cast starring Hanna Brammer, Brenna Markey, Lisa Chavez, Levi Hamlin, Stefano de Peppo, and Filippo Fontana. Stephanie Sundine directs.
Performance Date: Oct. 28 – Nov. 12, 2022
The Sarasota Youth Opera will showcase Dean Burry’s “The Secret World of Og.” The opera was previously presented by the company in 2016. Jesse Martins conducts and Martha Collins directs.
Performance Date: Nov. 5 & 6, 2022
Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” will be performed 10 times. These will be the company’s first performances of the Puccini opera since 2017. Raquel Gonzales leads a cast that also stars Heather Johnson, Christopher Oglesby, Filippo Fontana, and Young Bok Kim. Victor DeRenzi conducts and Stephanie Sundine directs.
Performance Date: Feb. 18 – March 24, 2023
Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” will get its first performance with Sarasota Opera since 2011. David Weigel, Young Bok Kim, Erica Petrocelli, Brian Vu, Caitlin Crabill, Stefano de Peppo, and Anna Madina star with Marcello Cormio conducting and Mark Freiman directing.
Performance Date: Feb. 25 – March 5, 2023
For the first time since 1997, the company will present Verdi’s “Ernani.” Rafael Davila, Aviva Fortunata, Ricardo José Rivera, and Mariano Buccino star. Martha Collins directs while Victor DeRenzi conducts.
Performance Date: March 11 – 26, 2023
Massenet’s “Thérèse” will gets its first performance at the Sarasota Opera. Lisa Chavez, Andrew Surrena, and Sean Anderson star. Louis Lohraseb conducts and Katherine Carter directs.
Performance Date: March 17 – 25, 2023
