Sarasota Opera Announces 2021-22 Season

The Sarasota Opera has announced its 2021-22 season featuring five masterworks from the Italian and French repertoire.

Fall Season 

Rossini’s rarely performed gem “La Scala di Seta” will open the season.

Performance Dates: Oct. 29-Nov. 13, 2021

Winter Season 

The first production of the winter will be Puccini’s beloved “Tosca” in the company’s classic production. Ann Toomey and Ben Gulley will headline as the doomed lovers Tosca and Cavaradossi; later in the run, Samiel Schlievert and Caitliin Crabill will portray the two central figures. Meanwhile, Stephen Gaertner and Alexander Charles Boyd will take on the role of Scarpia. The cast will be filled out by Stefano de Peppo as the Sacristan. Victor DeRenzi conducts a production by Stephanie Sundine.

Performance Dates: Feb. 12-March 19, 2022

Bel Canto fireworks will be on display as the company presents Donizetti’s comic masterpiece “La Fille du Regiment.” The opera stars William Davenport, Jessica Sandidge, Lisa Chavez, and Matthew Hanscom. Jesse Martins conducts while Mark Freiman directs.

Performance Dates: Feb. 19-March 18, 2022

Bizet’s other masterwork “The Pearl Fishers” comes to the stage after a year-long delay. Hanna Brammer, Andrew Surrena, Kyle Oliver, and David Weigel star. Katherine M. Carter directs while Marcello Cormio conducts.

Performance Dates: March 5-9, 2022

The season concludes with Verdi’s early gemAtilla which has become popular in recent years. Sarasota Opera will present the company’s 2007 production. The cast stars Young Bok Kim, Matthew Vickers, Rochelle Bard, Stefano de Peppo, and Brian Major. Victor DeRenzi conducts.

Performance Dates: March 12-22, 2022
