Sarah Connolly, Mark Padmore, Louise Alder, Véronique Gens, Kate Royal Headline Leeds Lieder Festival 2023

The Leeds Lieder Festival 2023 has been announced.

The season opens with a gala featuring tenor Mark Padmore and pianist Ana Manastireanu. They will perform music by Schumann, Britten, Finzi, Clarke, Tippett, and Gurney, among others.

Performance Date: June 9, 2023

Soprano Louise Alder and pianist Joseph Middleton will perform music by Schubert, Schumann, and Mozart, among others.

Performance Date: June 10, 2023 

Mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean performs “Voice Electric,” featuring works by Schwitter, Caroline Shaw, Scelsi, Erin Gee, and Kaija Saariaho, among others.

Performance Date: June 10, 2023

Contralto Jess Dandy and mezzo-soprano Joanna Harris perform “Song Path.”

Performance Date: June 11, 2023

Tenor Ben Johnson and pianist Graham Johnson OBE will perform Schubert’s “Die schöne Müllerin.”

Performance Date: June 11, 2023

Soprano Véronique Gens and pianist Susan Manoff perform music by Gounod, Chausson, Hahn, Fauré, and Duparc.

Performance Date: June 13, 2023

Baritone Felix Gygli and pianist JongSun Woo perform music by Schubert, Wolf, Korngold, and Mahler.

Performance Date: June 14, 2023

Baritone James Newby and pianist Joseph Middleton perform music by Britten, Mahler, Beethoven, Schubert, and Bingham.

Performance Date: June 14, 2023

Tenor Nick Pritchard and pianist David Cowan will perform music by Ralph Vaugh Williams alongside members of the Orchestra of Opera North.

Soprano Kate Royal, mezzo-soprano Christine Rice MBE, and pianist Julius Drake perform music by Schumann, Brahms, and Weill.

Soprano Ailish Tynan and pianist Joseph Middleton perform music by Parry, Bingham, Clarke, Wolf, and Herbert, among others.

Performance Date: June 16, 2023

There will be Young Artists Showcase.

Performance Date: June 17, 2023

Closing out the Leeds Lieder Festival will be mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly and pianist Joseph Middleton. They will perform music by Brahms, Mahler, Debussy, Errollyn Wallen, and Weill.

There will also be a number of major masterclasses by James Garnon, Sir Thomas Allen, Susan Manoff, Joan Rodgers, Julius Drake, and Graham Johnson, among others.
