Sara Jakubiak, Aleš Briscein and Günter Papendell Headline Stream of ‘Die Tote Stadt’ from Komische Oper Berlin

Komische Oper Berlin has announced that it will stream a production of Korngold’s “Die Tote Stadt.”
The opera will star soprano Sara Jakubiak, tenor Aleš Briscein, and baritone Günter Papendell. The cast also includes Maria Fiselier, Georgina Melville, Adrian Strooper, and Ivan Turšić. Ainārs Rubiķis conducts the production by Robert Carsen, which was filmed on Sept. 30, 2018.
Jakubiak is currently rehearsing in Berlin for the premiere of Zandonai’s opera “Francesca da Rimini” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. The soprano is also scheduled to perform the role of Elisabeth in “Tannhäuser” at the LA Opera in October 2021.
Briscein recently performed the title role in Wagner’s “Lohengrin” at the National Theatre Prague, the role of Prinz in Dvořák’s “Rusalka” at the ND Brno, and the role of Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” at the Komische Oper Berlin.
Papendell recently interpreted the title role in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” the role of Giorgio Germont in Verdi’s “La Traviata,” and the role of Pentheus in Henze’s “The Bassarids” at the Komische Oper Berlin. The baritone is scheduled to go back to the stage for the performance of Braunfels’ “Die Vögel” at the Bayerische Staatsoper in July 2021.
The stream will be available on OperaVision from Feb. 28, 2021 until March 28, 2021.
