On Saturday, July 20, the Santa Fe Opera will open Janáček’s “Jenůfa.”

The opera will be performed for the time in the company’s 63-year history. Director David Alden’s vision for the work is a co-production between Houston Grand Opera, Washington National Opera and the English National Opera. Alden’s staging was first shown in 2007 at the English National Opera and won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Opera Production.

The revival production will be conducted by Johannes Debus and will star Laura Wilde in the title role in her company debut, Patricia Racette in her role debut as the Kostelnička, and Susanne Mentzer as the Grandmother Buryjovka. The work also stars Alexander Lewis as Laca, making his company debut, and Richard Trey Smagur as Števa.

The opera runs through August 15, 2019.
