The Santa Fe Opera and Kentucky Opera have announced a new online workshop of new opera entitled “This Little Light of Mine.”

The one act opera by Chandler Carter and Diana Solomon-Glover will be presented on June 19, 2021 as part of a celebration of Juneteenth. The work highlights the light of voting rights activist Fannie Lou Harmer whose efforts culminated in the passing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

The workshop will be directed by Beth Greenberg and conducted by Jeri Lynne Johnson. The workshop will star Nicole Joy Mitchell, Aundi Marie Moore, and Heather Hill.

Carter has composed over 50 songs and numerous choral, chamber, and orchestral pieces. Meanwhile, Solomon-Glover has performed in a wide range of artistic settings including concert, oratorio, musical theater, cabaret, and radio and television. She created the role of Winnie Mandela in the premiere of “No Easy Walk to Freedom,” also composed by Carter.
