Santa Fe Opera Announces Cast Change for ‘Carmen’

The Santa Fe Opera has announced a cast change for its production of “Carmen.”

The company noted that Bryan Hymel has withdrawn from the role of Don Jose and will be replaced by Matthew White.

White recently performed at the Michigan Opera Theatre, Spoleto Festival USA, Arizona Opera, Bard SummerScape, Edmonton Opera, Princeton Festival and Cincinnati Opera. He has performed in works by Bizet, Gounod, Puccini, Chausson, and Verdi.

He joins a cast that includes Isabel Leonard in the title role, Michael Sumuel, and Sylvia D’Eramo. Michael Fabiano will sing Don Jose in August performances.  Harry Bicket conducts the production by Mariame Clément.

“Carmen” opens on July 1 and runs through August 27, 2022.
