San Francisco War Memorial Opera House to Complete Seating Replacement Project
By Logan MartellSan Francisco Ballet and San Francisco Opera, in collaboration with the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center, have announced that their seat replacement project, originally scheduled for the summer of 2021 will take place between September of 2020 and January of 2021.
This final phase of the project will complete renovations to the center, which is used by a number of local and visiting organizations. The new seating is designed to improve comfort, sightlines, and create newly accessible seating areas in order to accommodate all patrons.
The new seating replaces the one that had been with the theater since its construction in 1932 and completes the initiative which was begun in 2013 when the War Memorial Opera House began to replace the chairs in the Box level of the theater.
The final phase is estimated to cost roughly $3.5 million and is funded by a facility fee of $1 — $3 per ticket which became effective at the initiative’s beginning seven years ago.
