By David Salazar

San Francisco Performances is set to present its seventh PIVOT Festival, entitled “Ghost Stories.”

“‘Ghost Stories’ is the PIVOT theme this year with a festival-full of inventive artist-thinkers who have created programs that explore the presence of the past and the impact of haunting memories on our hearts,” said Melanie Smith, the president of San Francisco Performances in a press release.

For the purposes of this article, we will focus on vocal performances.

First up will be “Elegy” featuring cross-genre singer Theo Bleckmann.

Performance Date: Oct. 20, 2021

Tenor Nicholas Phan and the string quartet Brooklyn Rider will present the West Coast Premiere of Nico Muhly’s “Stranger.” The work presents the American immigrant experience from four different perspectives. Its world premiere was in Philadelphia back in 2020. This program will feature other music to be announced.

Performance Date: Oct. 21, 2021

The festival will also present “The Living Part Show” with the POST: Ballet and a concert featuring music by Missy Mazzoli alongside violinist Jennifer Koh.
