San Francisco Opera to Present ‘The Traviata Encounter’

By David Salazar

San Francisco Opera is set to present a unique immersive experience around its upcoming production of Verdi’s “La Traviata.”

On Nov. 19, audience members will be invited to a performance of the first act of the opera in a new production by Shawna Lucey and conducted by Eun Sun Kim with Pretty Yende and Jonathan Tetelman headlining the cast. Following that performance, audiences will move from the auditorium to the lobbies which have been transformed into the remaining sets of the opera and where attendees will get to engage in a night of food, drinks, and dancing.

“’La Traviata’ is the opera that makes Julia Roberts cry in ‘Pretty Woman,’” said Lucey in an official press statement. “Its story has inspired artists from Sofia Coppola to Baz Luhrmann, whose film ‘Moulin Rouge!’ shares its DNA… We’ve thought out every detail from the décor to the craft cocktails, immersive games and live entertainment to make this a completely unforgettable experience. This will be the party of the year.”

“The Traviata Encounter” kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and ends at around 10 p.m. local time.
