San Francisco Opera To Celebrate 96th Season With Opera In The Parks

The San Francisco Opera is set to celebrate the opening of its 96th Season with the annual San Francisco Chronicle Presents Opera in the Park.

The concert, which will be held on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1:30 p.m, will feature many of the artists set to appear throughout the season including Lianna Haroutounian, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Marco Berti, Dimitri Platanias, and conductor Daniele Callegari. It will also feature conductor Riccardo Frizza, Carmen Giannattasio in her first appearance, Brian Jagde, and conductor Leo Hussain. Other participating artists include Sarah Cambidge, Toni Marie Palmertree, Ashley Dixon, Pene Pati, and Christian Pursell. The concert will be at the Golden Gate Park and will be free.

The 2018 Opera in the Park concert will be dedicated to the memory of David Wiegand, former San Francisco Chronicle Assistant Managing Editor, Arts, and Entertainment. A devoted champion for the arts in San Francisco, Wiegand passed unexpectedly in late April 2018.

The San Francisco Opera opens on Sept. 7 with the double bill “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci.”
