San Francisco Opera Center and Merola Opera Program Announce 2020 Schwabacher Recital Series

The San Francisco Opera Center and Merola Opera Program have announced their 37th annual Schwabacher Recital Series for 2020.

The performances, which are scheduled at San Francisco’s Dianne and Tad Taube Atrium Theater, will feature emerging artists from around the globe.

The first concert will showcase a set of performers recently seen as part of the Merola Opera Program. Mezzo-soprano Alice Chung, baritone Laureano Quant and pianist Nicholas Roehler will perform a diverse repertoire that includes Bolcom’s music, as well as select songs from Berlioz’s “Les Nuits d’Été” and Francesco Santoliquido’s “I Canti della Sera.”

Performance Date: Jan. 29, 2020

The second Schwabacher recital will present mezzo-soprano Simone McIntosh and baritone Timothy Murray, with conductor and San Francisco Opera music staff Robert Mollicone on the piano. The concert will feature music by Debussy and Jonathan Dove.

Performance Date: March 4, 2020

The third 2020 Schwabacher recital will be presented by mezzo-soprano Ashley Dixon and pianist Kseniia Polstiankina Barrad. The program will include music by Fernando Obradors, Joaquín Turina, Francis Poulenc, Maurice Ravel and Carlos Guastavino.

Performance Date: April 1, 2020

The final Schwabacher recital will include pianist Warren Jones and three 2020 Adler Fellows soprano Esther Tonea, tenor Victor Starsky and baritone Timothy Murray. The program will include music by Verdi, Liszt, Rossini, Griffes, Ives, and Amy Beach.

Performance Date: April 22, 2020
