By David Salazar

The San Francisco de Asís International Composition Competition has announced its schedule and jury.

The new competition, for composers of any age and nationality, requires the contestants to submit a piece that has a duration of five to 15 minutes based on an original text for either solo voice with keyboard instrument or choir a cappella or with keyboard instrument accompaniment. For this year, the competition is calling for pieces that honor the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis of Assisi’s “Laudes Creaturarum.”

The first prize winner will receive €4,000  and the world premiere of the winning composition in Madrid, Spain.

The jury for this year’s edition includes composer Ramón Paus, pianist and researcher Josu Okiñena, and composer and director David Azurza.
