San Diego Opera will open its mainstage season on Feb. 12, 2022, with Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte.” Additional performances will be held on Feb. 15, 18, and 20, 2022.

This performance marks the company’s return to the San Diego Civic Center since the start of the pandemic.

The cast includes the winner of the 2021 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition baritone Gihoon Kim, as Guglielmo. He is joined by another 2021 Cardiff Singer of the World contestant, baritone Reginald Smith Jr., in the role of Don Alfonso.

Returning to the San Diego stage is Soprano Alisa Jordheim singing Despina. The role of Fiordiligi is performed by soprano Sarah Tucker. Mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey makes her company debut as Dorabella, and tenor Konu Kim will sing Ferrando.

Bruce Stasyna conducts and Timothy Nelson directs the production.

“Così fan tutte” will be sung in Italian with English supertitles. This is a new San Diego Opera production with scenic designs by Tim Wallace, costumes by Ingrid Helton, and Abigail Hoke-Brady is the lighting designer.
