San Diego Opera Makes Major Cast Change For ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’

The San Diego Opera has announced that bass-baritone Evan Hughes, will replace Nicholas Brownlee in the company’s upcoming production of “Le Nozze di Figaro.”

Per a press release, Brownlee, who was set to interpret the title role of the Mozart classic, was released due to a scheduling conflict. 

This will mark Evans’ debut with the company and he will be joined by a cast that includes John Moore, Caitlin Lynch, Sarah Shafer, Emily Fons, Susanne Mentzer, and Ashraf Sewailam. The production will be directed by Stephen Lawless with John Nelson at the podium. 

In addition to his performance in San Diego, Hughes is slated for performances at the Sächsiche Staatsoper. He will also be making debuts at the Opera Philadelphia, the Bolshoi Theatre, and the Berlin Philharmonic, among others. The bass-baritone is also slated to appear at the Komische Oper and debut at the Aldeburgh Festival in the future.
