San Diego Opera has announced that it will be the recipient of an award from The Conrad Prebys Foundation for $350,000, making the foundation the Season Sponsor for the company’s 2021 Spring and Fall Seasons.

San Diego Opera’s season will continue April 24, with a drive-in presentation of “One Amazing Night,” a concert of songs written in response to the global pandemic. The program, titled “When I See Your Face Again,” features members of the company chorus joined by the San Diego Symphony. The following night will be the first of four drive-in performances of “The Barber of Seville, with additional performances on April 27, 30, and May 1.

All performances will be held at the Pechanga Sports Arena San Diego parking lot at 7:30 pm, and will employ the same safety procedures used in the company’s production of “La Bohème” last October, which allowed them to return to live performances since the start of the pandemic.

The award comes as the CPF selected 121 grant recipients who will receive nearly $78 million in funding during its inaugural grant cycle. Grants went to projects in areas such as visual and performing arts, higher education, medical research, health care, youth development, and animal conservation.

“San Diego Opera is incredibly appreciative of this gift from The Conrad Prebys Foundation. Conrad was a passionate supporter of the arts and a frequent San Diego Opera audience member,” shares San Diego Opera General Director, David Bennett.  “His legacy lives on with this gift and we are pleased to name The Conrad Prebys Foundation our Season Sponsor. This gift enables us to safely share the transformative power of live music with the community he so generously supported and loved.”
